Ozymandias (My favorite poem) by Percy Bysshe Shelley

"And on the pedestal these words appear:
`My name is Ozymandias, King of Kings:
Look on my works, ye mighty, and despair!'"

Pre Adventure

When i was little i hated reading.  It was required for for elementary school and my mom wouldn't let me fake it... >:(   Finally when i was in fifth grade i found books by Mary Downing Hawn and fell in love.  From there i couldn't put books down.  I read and read and read and... didn't do my other homework.
But writing was still not my thing.  I resented having teachers make us write because it was boring and stupid and pointless and a waste of my time when i could be outside running barefoot!
My freshman year of high school changed all of that.  I had signed up for a lower level of LA than I probably needed to wanted because my middle school teachers told me i wasn't up for top level LA.... jerks.
But if I hadn't taken that class i wouldn't have had Mr. Alberty.  Honestly i have no idea why he was teaching bottom level LA... it might have just been regular level.  I can't remember.  All i can remember is that he was one of the best teachers i had at wash.  Definitely the best English teacher.  He would have been amazing at higher level classes and i am still sad that i didn't get to take AP Lit from him.  Either way, i'm selfishly happy that he didn't teach a harder class because i wouldn't have had the extreme luck of learning from him.  And i would not have found the other of two things that make me happy.  He gave us an assignment to write a dialogue and make it not boring.  For what ever reason i got really into it.  And when i was done he encouraged me.  Just like that i was into writing.  That assignment had been so much fun.  I loved searching my mind for the right word to describe the situation.  The exercise of putting myself in the situation and describing it.  It's one of the best feelings to be able to go back and read what you wrote and actually think it sounds good, it gives a brief moment of self pride that i don't get many other ways.

Excerpt from book

That night the guys stood around by the door awkwardly.  Mickey’s hair was especially bright looking, contrasted with his billowing black baggy sleeved shirt that laced up the front; the material was loose and light to stay comfortable in the heat.  Simon was dressed in a dark gold and Caleb in a pale green.  Zane and his aunt came out of the kitchen, both wearing white.  James, dressed in a deep blue, the same color of his eyes, was leaning up against the back wall while the rest of the guys talked.  His skin looked pale beneath the dark blue lacing over his chest.
Looking up, Mickey whistled and grinned.  Sam was coming down the stairs in a black dress made out of the same material as the guy’s shirts, with her fiery red hair pulled back and curled down her neck.  The green ribbon tying her hair accented her eyes bringing out the piercing multi-green circles.  All the boys whooped as she jogged down the stairs grinning to stand by Simon’s side.
James glanced up, flipping his dark hair out of his eyes and stopped short as he saw Izzy at the top of the stairs following Sam.  She was wearing a silvery blue strapless flowing gown that came all the way down to gently pool at her feet, like she was wearing air.  Her hair, unlike the usual ponytail, was left untouched, curling in waves around her face, neck and shoulders.  The black of her hair made her skin so pale that if she’d been outside she’d have been glistening like the moon and probably out shinning it he thought.  James shook himself as Izzy reached them and Mickey put his arm around her shoulder and squeezed.
“Wow Iz, I was actually expecting you to show up in our usual gear.” He teased.
She punched him lightly in the stomach laughing and left him coughing as she headed outside with everyone.  “Shut up, Mick.” She called over her shoulder.
The festival glowed with lights hanging everywhere so that the entire town reflected the stars.  The music and lights blurred together in a dreamlike atmosphere.  The group danced around, ate the food, tasted a few too many drinks, and laughed.
After a while James noticed that Izzy was no longer hanging around and went off to look for her.  He spotted her standing at the shore with Shard sitting by her side.  She was looking out to sea, the wind blowing her hair back off and across her face.  Her dress was flowing around her like the wind.  Her skin was so pale that she shone the moons color back at it, and he knew that if he could see her eyes they would be sparkling all the light of the world back at him.  Seeing her there struck him in a way that was unfamiliar and scared him a bit.  He felt light headed and the same sort of feeling in his chest.  He shook himself and walked over to her, calling her attention from the crashing waves.
“Oh, hey Jim.” She said glancing at him.  He saw her give him a strange look and wondered what was showing on his face but she was already gazing back at the sea.  “You know, there’s nothing more beautiful than the sea.
“It sits there crashing and flowing, soaking in all of the world's hurts and pains, its joys and friendships, its fun times and bad, soaking them in and reflecting them back.  You can see everything in the sea, the playful waves, the turmoil, the foreboding stillness.  It reflects the sun, shining light over everything, it catches the mood and prisms all the light out at us.  Then it comes and soaks our toes as we watch it work its wonders.”
She turned and looked at him this time, and as their eyes met, James felt that same strange feeling and this time figured out what it was.  He wanted to protect this girl that he had known all his life.  She was still hurting from the death of her grandpa and now she had lost her dad and Oliver and had no idea where they were.  He wanted to shelter her from all the fear and pain in the world, wanted to hide her from the dangers and hated that they were coming on so quickly.
But he knew he couldn’t, he knew she wouldn’t let him, and he knew she didn’t have to.  She could take care of herself, but he would be there for her when she needed him.  Those feelings had always been there.  They’d always been friends, always had each other’s back.  Now there was just a little something extra.
As they gazed into each other’s eyes, something seemed to change.  Maybe it was the ocean and the festival, maybe it was just the fact that they had taken the time to connect again, but it was different.  There was trust and comfort there that could never be broken and they both knew that no matter where they were in the world they would never be alone.  Izzy grinned, and the moment was over, but the connection remained.  James walked over and stood next to her with his arm on her shoulders looking out at the waves.  She leaned her head on his shoulder comfortably.
“How long are we planning on staying here?” He asked.
“As long as it takes.  I want something to go on, and this place is amazing.”
“Alright,” He said, looking down at her. “Let’s get back to the festival then, if it’s so amazing.”
She laughed and turned with him to go back, calling Shard.  As they walked up to the town center, they saw Mickey and Sam dancing in the center of the square.  Izzy turned to James with a glint in her eye.  Not feeling like embarrassing himself, James shook his head and started walking towards Caleb, but Izzy grabbed his wrist and pulled him into the crowd with a peal of laughter.

Once she had him trapped in the crowd, she was spinning away, a teasing smile on her face.  The dance floor was crowded with people’s bodies beating into each other as they danced around him; he tried to keep sight of her.  She popped up in front of him and grabbed his hands.  Some glitter had found its way into her hair and it sparkled in the lights.  Her eyes were twinkling with mischievous intent as she pulled him into an excited dance.  She was smiling all over her face.  She had a way of losing herself in something that made him smile back.  Her hands let go of his, and she raised them above her head as she spun around him.  Her dress fluttered around her as she danced like he imagined angels would.
She swirled around him and was suddenly close again.  His breath caught.  Her face was open and happy; she looked young.  She looked like she used to in the days when they'd spend all day in the water, splashing and playing.  Her eyes shone with a mixture of joy at just being wet, and the promise that all was not yet over.  He saw that promise now and despaired; he would not be done dancing for a while.  She laughed delightedly and took his hands again.  As they spun he noticed clouds moving in.
Sooner than he expected there was a crash of thunder, a flash of lightning, and it began to rain.  A few people paused but, mostly everyone just kept dancing.  Izzy had stopped and was looking up at the sky.  Raindrops bounced off her face, giving her a halo of water.  Droplets clung to her eyelashes and plastered her bangs to her forehead.  She grinned and raised her hands as high as she could.  Water ran down the lines of her lean muscular arms as she stretched.  Her dress spread flat against her defined stomach.  Without thinking he reached out and put his hands on her waist.  She looked at him, for a second lost in his eyes, then she smiled and began dancing.  They danced through the rain.  Completely soaked, he could feel the tight muscles in her abs and hips move as they danced.

The music slowed down and the wild dancing turned to soft swaying.  She looked up at him through her wet hair and smiled.  His shirt clung to his arms and chest and his dark hair was falling wetly over deep blue eyes.  Eyes like the one spot of clear blue sky on a stormy night.  A deep cobalt at the center with the cloudier midnight blue around the edges.  They took her breath away.  She looked into his eyes, suddenly hesitant, and they started swaying back and forth.  His hands were already on her hips, and he pulled her closer.  She could feel the hardness of his muscles beneath his drenched shirt.
Putting her hands around his neck, she stretched up on her toes to whisper in his ear that he was dancing and was rewarded with an amused look.  But he didn’t stop, which surprised her.  He had never liked dancing, and it had been a long shot pulling him out here with her.  She wondered why he was willing to stay.  The rain was cold, and she was starting to shiver, but she didn’t want to stop dancing.  She looked up at him again and saw him watching her.  She cocked her head to the side slightly and smiled at him.  Something flashed behind his eyes, but she couldn’t tell what.  He leaned his head down and rested his forehead against her's.  She realized she’d been holding her breath and exhaled.  He raised an eyebrow at her and lifted his head a bit.

They were in unfamiliar territory.  Her skin was glistening with thousands of tiny droplets of prisms.  Her rain tangled hair fell around her face, and bits of it were plastered to her cheeks and forehead.  Her silver eyes were shining up through her bangs with all the mystery and adventure he could imagine.  There was something unnatural about her, something inhuman.  Obviously she wasn’t human, she was a Silver Eye.  Her heavenly ancestry shone through her eyes, smile, and tilt of her head.  The way her chin was always raised just a little past confidence and into arrogance.  Her eyebrows were always cocked just enough to make her seem amused, and her smile always look a little smug.  But her eyes shone with such complete honesty and affection and joy all the time that they tied the whole face together into the sun.  She was glowing at him in the rain, and he was absolutely fascinated by the divine creature.  If she wanted him to dance, he would dance.  If she wanted him to fight a hoard of raiders, he would do it.  If she wanted him to stand here in the rain with her, he would.  He pulled her in and held her close to him.  Just for this moment he wanted to hold her when everything was so unreal and perfect.

Harnessing emotions

Here goes my attempt to harness the emotion of love

You sit in bed, staring into nothingness, unable to erase their face from your mind.  You can see every line of their face, the set of their jaw, the tilt of their eyebrows, their hair.  The way their serious eyes can pierce through you thickest set of defenses.  Their smile makes your face light up even in the saddest moments.  You see their strong jaw line and their lean neck.  You imagine their defined arms wrapped around you.
Something about them makes you feel comfortable.
You can hear their laugh and your eyes glint warmly picturing them cheerful.  You remember sarcastic remarks they said and laugh at the memory.  You hear everything they ever said to you.  You see their face again.  The laugh lines that burst out of nowhere when they see the world in whatever way it is that amuses them.
You smile affectionately.
Your chest fills with more air than it’s used to.
Your head feels like it’s floating a bit above healthy.
Your heart beats just a bit more heavily.
Enough to notice.
Enough to give a familiar ache of pain.
Not enough to change anything

History of the Silver Eyes

Okay, this is going to be long so you don't have to read it if you don't want to.  I researched Greek mythology and found different gods and goddesses that had some influence over the elements that i needed to one day be controlled by one person.
The Silver Eyes had to come from somewhere, so i had to find a way to get all of the powers into one.  Each of the gods have power over the individual elements... These are who i came up with:

Thalassa: The Primeval goddess of the sea
Aether: Primeval god of light
Erebus: Premeval god of the darkness of night and the netherworld
Nyx: Goddess of the night
Dryads: Female spirits of nature
Helios: God of the sun
Oceanus: God of the vast ocean
Hephaestus: God of fire
Poseidon: King of the sea and god of earthquakes
Kapheira: The aura of strong winds
Hesione: Goddess of foreknowledge
Prometheus: God of forethought

Now that i had these i had to find a way to breed them together

Then i had to write out the History.  Remember most of this i did so that i could get my thoughts straight, but since none of this ever comes into the story in full... i thought i'd like to share it somewhere.

Thalassa was the daughter of Aether and Hemera.  She was the primeval goddess of the Sea. Her parent gave her the genes of darkness and light, night and day.
Erebus(Darkness)                            Aether (light)                    Thalassa (Sea)
Nyx (Night)                                     Hemera (Day)
Thalassa fell in love with a human man and they had three childre, only one of which had children of their own.  For generations Thalassa and her family's genes were passed down.  Over time, as the Earth progressed and began colonizing planets, a new race was created.

The Shadow Walkers were able to move among the shadows and control them.  They populated a planet called Leboc.

The Elements can be seen as a cross.

Fire is formed from Hot/Dry
Air is formed from Hot/ Wet
Water is formed from Wet/ Cold
Earth is formed from Cold/ Dry

Gods that were attached to the elements were Zeus for air, Hera for Earth, Persephone for Water, and Hades for Fire.  The influence of Zeus and Hera's Air and Earth were passed down to their son, Hephaestus, God of Fire.
Hephaestus had a fling with a young woman he saw running through an open feild and thus passed on his and his family's genes.
The Genes were passed on through generations of development and evolution, until a young man named Jonathan Speed met a part nymph woman, Fay Vinea, who happened to be the descendant of Poseidon.
Together Oceanus and Tethys had Kapheira.  Kapheira and a human man had a child and her's and her father's geners of water and air were passed on through generations.
Poseidon fell in love briefly with a descendant of Kapheira and added royal power over the sea and power over Earth to the gene pool.
The descendant, possessing the genes with Water, Earth, and Air was walking through the woods one day and encountered a Dryad.  Plant was now also a part of the gene pool in the form of a daughter, who happened to be the young woman that Jonathan Speed fell in love with.  Together they had a son.

Pontos, the primeval god of water, and Gaia had Eurybia, the goddess of power over the sea, who had a son with her husband Krios.  From their son came a very powerful line of merpeople that could control water.
One of these merpeople fell in love with Aegea, daughter of Helios and Perse, and combined the line of water controllers with very powerful fire genes in the form of a son.
This young man met a woman from a distant planet of Leboc on Equol.  The massive water power genes unlocked Thalassa's sea genes.  Their daughter, Nora Glass, now possessed genes with powerful Water, Shadow, and Fire powers.
The son of Jonathan Speed, Aberdale, met Nora and put together a combination of Water, Air, Plant, Earth, Shadow, and Fire in Laurel Speed, their daughter.

Thus Silver Eyes were born and populated the planet of Equol, which was at the time a fairly new and unpopulated Planet.  As thousands of years passed the Silver Eyes became a more developed race.  With more time they began to die out.  By the time the story begins Izzy, Oliver, and their Dad are the only living Silver Eyes that they knew about.  Their Grandfather, Ross Speed, was one as well.

Hesione, daughter of Oceanus, was goddess of "knowing" and "foresight" and fore knowledge.  She and her husband, Prometheus, the god of forethought, gifted Aberdale Speed with mental abilities beyond elemental powers.  And so every few generations a Silver Eye is born with that ability.
Oliver Speed is the first in a long enough time that people had forgotten the genes or power even existed.

SO there's my history of the Silver Eyes.  If you actually read it then i hope it was educating and entertaining and i hope you don't hate me for wasting your time :)  I had fun putting it together.  I hope it makes sense... I could very easily have gotten things confused... HOPE NOT

The plot:: As i see it at the moment....

I am not very good at figuring out how to describe the story line of this book.  I see everything in my head, and i can write out the story on paper i just cant... summarize it.   So i would appreciate it if you would give me a little faith that it's not as bad as it sounds.  HERE GOES.

Isabelle Speed and her little brother Oliver Speed come from a line of Silver Eyes who are descended from the Gods, giving them the power to control the elements. When Oliver and their father, Victor Speed, get taken by a gang of Raiders, Izzy and her crew must embark on her second journey as captain of The Excavator to save them.  In the process of freeing them two things are discovered: Izzy learns that there is a last Society of Silver Eyes on the planet Equol and Captain Rarsh and the raiders are planning to attack it, and Oliver learns he has the power to connect to other people's minds with his own and create force fields.  As Izzy and Oliver work to save the Silver Eye colony from the raider attack, Izzy learns that things are much worse than she believed, and she must be careful not to destroy herself in the process of saving everyone she loves.

My Adventure Begins

I've always loved writing more than anything else (except band) and when i finally had an idea to really work with.... i jump in it.
My idea began with a girl who could control the elements and it took off from there.
Did you ever think about what super power you would have if you could have one? I DID! and mine was that i would control the elements.  So Isabelle Speed (my main character) gets to do what i wish i could.  Along with more than i would ever want to.
Next i had to give her friends and family, because creating characters is FUN
She became the Captain of the ship The Excavator that she had inherited from her father.  And her crew became my main characters.
I started writing.
This book really started out as a short story, but as i wrote i saw potential and i started thinking that maybe i could actually write a book.  The short story became the first chapter to the book and i went from there.
Now i needed a more developed plot than what id been fantasizing about.  I needed villains, struggle, adventure, love, strength, epicness.
I now have my fully developed ideas with just a few holes that i need to fix up.  In fact, i have the whole first rough draft done of my book because i started this blog a little late.  OOPS. oh well.
My journey has begun, and although i am a bit farther along the actual path than this blog entry says, i still have many challenges to come.
